Tax returns of individuals are due on or before the fifteenth day of the fourth month following the close of the tax year. For the clendar year taxpayer, the usual filing date is on or before April 15 of the following year. When the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the last day for filing falls on the next business day. If the return is mailed to the proper address with the sufficient postage and is postmarked on or before the due date, it is deemed timely filed. The Code enables the IRS to prescibe rules governing the filing of returns using various parcel delivery services.
