9/11

Today is the anniversery of the terrorist attacks in Lower Manhattan. This is the first year that the ceremonies will not take place at Ground Zero. There was a lot of public outcry as to why the ceremonies would be held across the street in the adjacent park.
The reasons Mayor Bloomberg gave for the move are two fold. One, there is ongoing construction going on. So the mayor is looking out for public saftey. Also, the mayor is attempting to get people to move on in a way. I watched on television as one guy who came into town for the ceremonies said that "It never gets easier." On the otherhand, many families affected have decided to not attend the ceremonies in person but to have their own rememberance in their homes or other personal setting. I agree that people should move on in a way, but also we should never forget what happened. I will never forget that day. I was just a few blocks away inside Pace.
I'm still undecided on if there should be an annual ceremony where all the names are called each year. We need to develop a way to always remember though.
