1. Organizational effectiveness pertains to how well resources are obtained and managed, goals are met, and those who have a stake in the organization are satisfied. Measuring organizational effectiveness is a method of controlling to ensure that the organization’s strategy is achieved. There are several different models that can be used to measure organizational effectiveness. The one chosen will depend on the strategy chosen.
2. The four functions of management are controlling, leading, organizing, and planning. Planning pertains to setting goals and ways to achieve them. When strategic, tactical, and operational goals are developed, the planning function is being used. Developing a mission statement is a planning function. Organizing is deciding how to group activities and resources. Job design is an organizing function. When a manager offers an employee job enlargement, organizing is being done. Leading is motivating those in the organization to meet the organization’s goals and interests. Providing positive reinforcement and praise to employees is a leadership function. Controlling is managing and correcting operations to meet the firm’s goals and strategies. Internal audits of financial statements are a controlling function
