3. The divisional (M-form) is appropriate for DeVry Inc, which I have a part job. DeVry has a strategy of related diversification. Units of DeVry Inc include Chamberlin College of Nursing, Ross University, DeVry University, and Becker Professional Review. Many activities are decentralized; this makes DeVry more effective as units can adjust to their particular business environment.
4. One reason why human resources is a major objective in management courses is the shift of System 1 model to the System 4 model in business management. Employees are a major resource of organizations; managing them effectively is vital to the success of a company.
5. There are many needs theories. Among the most popular are Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the ERG theory, and the Two Factor Theory. Maslow’s theory states that there are five levels of needs that people wish to satisfy. The order of the needs is physiological, security, belongingness, esteem, and self actualization. When the first need is satisfied, the next level will be sought. ERG is similar to Maslow; it states that more than one level can be sought at a time. Needs are grouped into three categories: existence, relatedness, and growth. It also introduces “frustration-regression.” If a level of needs cannot be met, frustration kicks in and a lower level of needs is pursued in order to be satisfied
6. Communication can be improved through making sure the right form of communication is used, being an active and empathetic listener , and regulating the flow of information.
7. The five big personality types are agreeable, conscientious, negative emotion, extraversion, and openness. Agreeableness refers to how well one gets along with others. Conscientiousness refers to the number of objectives one focuses on. Negative emotion refers to the level of stability one has emotionally- how calm, poised and secure one is. Extraversion refers to how comfortable one is with having relationships- being more less social, assertive, and outgoing. Openness refers to how willing one is to listen and understand new ideas, other beliefs and opinions.
