For my law class' threaded discussion, the following quote was put up: Unless you become more watchful in your states and check the spirit of monopoly and thirst for exclusive privileges you will in the end find that ... the control over your dearest interests has passed into the hands of these corporations." It's by Andrew Jackson.
Then we had the following assignment: Comment on the following: "The single most important and pervasive moral obligation facing mankind is to ensure survival of a healthy planet for our grandchildren and theirs."

My response is:
It's sort of a Catch 22, ensuring survival could take 2 points of views. The text described how developing urban areas such as Mexico City are willing to put up w/ increasing air pollution as their economy grows. Smog is a "luxury" item. Once the per capita income is at a certain point, then citizens would more concerned about the environment- but that could take decades.

There needs to be some kind of guidance for growing economies to make sure there is a balance between economic growth and enviromental preservation.
